”Apollo can not see…but she can hear and feel…everything. Her eyes are staring at a world we can not see;despite the hatred in this world, the diseases and the apaty, she is wagging her tail with a joy like no other when you pet her.We don’t know yet what left her eyes deprived of the light. She has been found unable to see in Ankara streets and her condition has been debiliating ever since. We brought her to the clinic yesterday, there she will go through tests and treatments and hopefully,we will be able to save her.For now she needs every prayer and good vibes you can send her, please keep her in your thoughts. ”
And that is how Apollo’s journey had begun.
It would seem to be not a problem of ours.Apollo did not have a name, she was an image between hundreds of pictures we receive in the emails everyday.Hundreds between thousands crying for help, crying for support each day in Turkey. She did not have a family, she was a stray abandoned in the street, with no care and shelter.
What made Apollo special was her condition and the lack of devotion around her plea for us. The clinic in the city she was found had suggested euthanasia…
” Putting her to sleep would be the best option since she is a stray and no one would adopt a dog like her. ”
Turkey is a no-kill country. On the surface of this shadowy water one would believe such a law would inforce a practise of compassion. However we all know the reality. Each day hundreds are passively euthanized because they are strays and their conditions require devoted care such as paralysis or any condition that would cause them be in need of life long care. Very few clinics go beyond the call of duty for cases like Apollo as they think no one would pay for the lengthy treatment.
For them, the fate of such animals is a long journey to the unknown.A needle is much better. It is cheap and more importantly fast.
Not for us.
Where they see death and despair we see new horizons, discovery and hope. That is why after giving it a 30 seconds thought (lol) I wrote to Apollo’s rescuers :
” Would you let us take this case? ”
A week later Apollo came to the clinic in Istanbul.
Together we went through a lengthy journey to the light. At first it seemed like we were battling with wind mills…However Apollo’s will to live and to live well may I add , prevailed.Apollo came to the clinic crawling ,she was not able to see,she left the clinic walking and seeing like a normal dog.
It took 5 months to bring Apollo back to the light.
But her journey is not over yet…
Apollo is not a pure bred dog, furthermore her complicated start in life makes her obviously not adoptable for the 90 % of people in Turkey…but we are committed to saving her life and go until the end with her.
That is why we are flying her to Canada, the land where she will be more than welcome. Our friends there will make everything possible for her to begin a brand new life and it will be heaven for a dog like Apollo.
We don’t have time to loose, the flight volunteers availability makes it so that we need to raise for her travel within 6 days.
It is a time where we need to pull together and make Apollo’s journey to the light possible.
Please contribute if you can today to her journey to the light,if you can not, please share this post with your friends.
