The number of stray population in Turkey is estimated to be around 2 millions as of today. A big percentage of this number roams free in the streets,either returned after being caught for sterilisation by the respective municipalities to their area or never registered at all.
Each day, hundreds of cases are brought to the clinics ; traffic accidents , abuse cases, hoarding victims … They all have a different story , but their eyes reflect the same pain ; without hope for a brighter future , without knowing what to expect from humankind , they go along with whatever they are ordered to do…
There is no point in rebel : if not by physical force , we are more powerful by sheer number thus are in control of their fate.
Sometimes this leads to a happy ending but many times not.
ARCHIE’s story is one of the cases where it only led to misery.
ARCHIE was born in the streets.Somehow the municipality officers never caught his mother , the life in the streets and having to be in a constant search for food was all he knew in his short life…His mother taught him to avoid humans to protect his precious life against the dangers that could cause him lose his life or worse ; cause him to be in agony.
One day the unexpected happened ; ARCHIE felt an unbearable pain on his back as he was running to the other side of the highway for his daily treasure ; a piece of bread . The pain was so strong that he lost conscience.When he opened his eyes , he was in a shelters consultation table. Two pair of eyes were staring at him. He wanted to stand up and run away but could not . Neither could he feel down his waist.
The accident had fractured his vertebral column and his hinder legs.
The doctors rushed for the operation ; weeks and weeks of treatment and having to pass his days in a clinics small cage turned out to be in vain ;
Archie never walked again.
Months have passed ; hydrotherapy and laser therapies did not work out , sores began to show up on his now immobile hinder legs but worse than this , his condition had now begun to affect his organs. Many doctors suggested euthanasia ; Archie was now a lost case.
At this point we all should ask our-selves : where do we draw the line and turn our head to the agony of an animal ? How do we choose , according to which law or criteria ?
Answering this question is simple for us ; if there is any way to make his life comfortable enough to continue without pain , it is our mission to provide it , no matter the cost .
ARCHIE is at a crossroads now ;
In order to prevent his organs be damaged both of his legs need to be amputated.He will then continue his life with the help of wheelchairs. To make his life easier we will also devote our energy to find him an angel that would protect and care for him for the rest of his life anywhere in the world.
